Welcome to the 8th annual Rick's Run
October 1 - October 31
We're Going Virtual for 2020!
Damn it all. As if 2020 hasn’t been hard enough, now we’re asking you to challenge yourself and step outside your comfort zone, all while avoiding the Pandemic, Murder Hornets, Hurricanes, Forest Fires, Derechos . . . . and a Presidential Campaign. No wonder you want to go for a run or five. So - five challenges, five ways to enjoy Ricks Run, five ways to show your character, your perseverance, your commitment. You can do one - you can do two - can you do all five?
ALL the proceeds go to the FSRC Memorial Scholarship Fund - ain’t nobody getting rich doing this!
This is a choose your own adventure challenge. You choose the challenge(s), you choose the day(s), you choose the route(s), you earn the results.
Five Events - Five Ways to Challenge Yourself
Why Virtual this year?
Who We Help
After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to transition to a virtual format. While some races are moving forward with in-person events, we feel that the only way to ensure the safety of our participants, our volunteers, and other users of Greenbrier State Park, is to avoid a concentration of runners on a particular day and at one geographic location.
We think we've come up with a fun set of events/challenges to retain the spirit of Rick's Run during an otherwise difficult year. Rick O'Donnell faced a lot of challenges with grace and humor, and we know our runners will embrace the changes that we've put in place.
Net proceeds from the Rick O'Donnell 5.22 Mile Trail Run and Ultra Challenge benefit the Frederick Steeplechasers Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is awarded to deserving high school seniors who embody the character and integrity of the Steeplechaser members to whom we dedicate this race. The Frederick Steeplechasers have awarded $36,500 in scholarships to 24 recipients since 2016. To learn more, visit our FSRC Memorial Scholarship page.
About the Frederick Steeplechasers
The Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club has been supporting runners, hosting races, and volunteering in the Frederick community since 1975. We promote running as a fun and healthy activity, and welcome runners of all ages and abilities. The Steeplechasers donate net proceeds of their four "Signature Races" to the community. In 2019 FSRC raised over $73,000 for local charitable causes.
